Avenue Park Renovation Plan

Comments

  1. Still no toilets?!?
The park is a long walk from public convenience on High St, Tesco and community centre (although they are not public ones either). Will the pavilion therefore be open all summer long for use of toilets or will the children (and parents) continue to
    a- hold it
b- go in the hedge area (all over the new "playful natural route"?)
c- go home or to the nearest in the High St? What a shame when this is the most obvious omission from current and planned provision.

  2. Hello again,

I have just found out that the new renovation plans DO NOT incude any fencing of any sort.
I always felt safe in the idea that my daughter could not wander off.... but now.

    What do you all think.

    Love to know.

  3. Hello everyone,

Just wanted to know where the fence is on the plan?
I cannot imagine that such a safety feature could have been overlooked, but maybe it has.
Not only does it stop the children wandering off, but it keeps the dogs out and the oddcricket ball.

Would be interested in the views of others,

    Johnny Bracken

  4. Are there going to be more areas with shade created as there are very few at the moment?

My children love the pool but we have stopped going there as when it is hot there just is not enough shade around and we are left very exposed in the sun all the time, unless we manage to get a spot under a tree which is unlikely when it is busy.

  5. It looks good in terms of active things. Is there any scope for anything that could be used for imaginative play? The train at Howard Park in Letchworth is a favourite for my kids - anything like that, or open summer house / gazebo sort of thing that could be a pretend shop / house. If there is a vehicle though, could it have multiple steering wheels? They have that at London transport museum and it saves so many fights!

  6. Is there enything for older children. If you are going to put something for older children please dont go down the fottball and basketball route as it attracts rough kids to the area.

I'd much rather like to see a skatepark down towards the basketball pitch, Trust me many children will be very greatful! :)

  7. All residents were invited to a number of open sessions through 2008 and 2009 on Avenue Park improvements run by a consultancy called Groundwork. Their proposals covered the whole of the park not just the play area. Is this a watered down version for one area only? What happenned to the Grand Plan?

  8. are they planning to sort out the car park as west avenue is used for parking, and gets quite dangerous when the weather is nice and mums and dads are at the paddling pool and the bowling and cricket is going on

  9. Hi
The plans look good for younger children but they do not have anything for older children, except existing tenniscourts which have been there years. I emailed NHDC a month ago enquiring about skating facilities as Baldock does not have anything as far as I am aware. Could a skateboarding area be considered further down the field near the basketball area?

NHDC have plans for renovating Avenue Park. A major consultation was carried out last year and since then a further consultation exercise was carried out at Avenue Park during May 2010 half term asking people to comment on the three proposed plans for the park.

As a result of this consultation, NHDC will now be going with the above plan.
Whilst there is no longer an opportunity for people to comment on which plan to go for, the council will still listen to comments on the design being adopted.

If you would like to make a comment on the design being adopted to be considered by the council, please do so using the comment box on this page. All comments will be collected and passed onto NHDC by the end of July 2010
